A journey begins…

For those reading these words, welcome. This is my second attempt at maintaining a blog. The first incarnation had no purpose other than to capture my random thoughts into words. My hope with this blog is to document my wanderings and allow others to check in with my whereabouts if they wish to do so. Enjoy.

Day One: Finally. After much planning, thinking, dreaming, changing, and discussing, departure occurred. What should have been a two and a half hour trip turned into a five hour inconvenience. All was made instantaneously better upon meeting Isaac, who was kind enough to be very content during the ten minutes that I held him. With such wonderful people as parents as his role model, he will certainly become a fascinating and dynamic individual. There couldn’t have been a better way to start out this journey. After all, most of my previous treks were co-piloted with his mother in our younger years.

Day one came to an exhausting end several hours ago. After spending the past week moving, finishing school, packing for the trip, and updating the phone so I could access wordpress, I’m glad that an impromptu visit to capogiro gelato was agreed upon. (Although the honeysuckle flower gelato was a unique taste, I stuck with more conventional flavors this time around.) Perhaps the most wise thought of the day came from the Philly resident shouting at us from his car window as he drove by Debra and me as we were simultaneously walking and texting people. “Get off the phones. Talk to each other. That’s how to develop a relationship.” Thank you interruptive, possibly tipsy Philadelphian man for your sage advice. Thank you.

On that note, I’m excited to spend the next few weeks with Debra making new memories. After our time together, I look forward to spending time with family, friends, and strangers I meet along the way. With hope, the modern technologies, including this blog, will only enhance the interactions along the way.
